Market analysis for MACBETH

  • 04/07/2023

A market analysis, included in the first version of the MACBETH exploitation plan, has been carried out by PNO to understand the main trends, threats, and opportunities of the targeted markets of each MACBETH case. The executed work comprised desk research and review, market questionnaires and interviews and Merger & Acquisition analyses.

To enrich the literature review and gather additional insights, it was decided to conduct interviews with experts in the field, including project partners, MACBETH’s External Advisor Board members and other stakeholders.

To identify interviewee candidates, stakeholders identified in the previous stakeholder analysis were listed for each case. These lists were then complemented through brain storming sessions with the MACBETH partners.

Subsequently, to prepare the interviews, a questionnaire was designed, including the most relevant questions on market trends, but also main technological needs, the perceived value of the MACBETH products and services, the purchasing modalities and other case-specific issues.

Next, interviewees were contacted and received the questionnaire in advance to prepare for the interview, followed by an online interview session, to discuss the interviewees’ replies in more detail. All MACBETH External Advisory Board members participated in the interviews and provided better insights of the markets, as well as additional relevant contacts.

Statistics on the interviews conducted so far are presented in Figure 1.

The 62,5% return rate of contacted interviewee candidates shows a strong interest in the project compared to the usual average return rate for market analyses of 10%.

Most interviewees have a general expertise either on membranes, or catalysts, and have been involved in one or more of the MACBETH cases. Very few, however, have significant experience with using or developing Catalytic Membrane reactors.

In the remaining months of the project until October 2024, the market analysis will be updated periodically and finalised in the Final Exploitation Plan. Moreover, it will also contribute to Business Plan.
